News and Announcements
Bankbridge Regional Vocational Department News
The Horticulture students are eager to welcome Spring and have been busy planting flower and vegetable seeds. They are learning the techniques for growing beautiful plants and will practice their customer service skills when our greenhouse opens to the public for sales on Thursday and Friday afternoons during the month of May. We will have a wide variety of bedding plants available including geraniums, impatients, wave petunias, tomatoes, peppers and much more! Hanging baskets will also be available for sale on Thursday, May 6th …. just in time for Mother’s Day! The horticulture students will put their green thumbs to use by pulling weeds and planting colorful flowers on the school grounds.
This month, the students in the Media and Performing Arts class have been preparing for the Talent Show to be held on Wednesday, May 19th. Select students will orchestrate our new set design and lighting patterns while others will work on costume design. Additional students will begin choreographing their dance sequences. Our high school students are currently producing 30-second videos highlighting the dangers of drinking and driving. These public service announcements will be entered into a county wide video competition in April. The last unit of the school year will bring together both artists and disabilities. Students will research select disabilities and artists who have them. Students will compile this information and then each student will “teach” their class about the disability they’ve chosen and the artist who has lived with it. The students in Retail are adjusting to the new touch screen cash register. They continue to be busy performing the many different jobs necessary to keep our store running smoothly. Stop down to the Hawk’s Nest any day and you will find our students assisting customers, operating the cash register, making sandwiches, filling lunch orders, continually making pots of fresh coffee, washing dishes, stocking shelves and so much more. While learning about the many responsibilities of running a store, they are also applying the lessons they’ve learned about food sanitation and how to work safely in their assigned areas In the Auto Shop classroom, the students continue to be busy with the car wash fundraiser, which benefits the Student Activity Account. In addition, they have been maintaining the snow removal equipment and fixing everything from snowplows to salt spreading equipment after all that snow we had. They are ready to put the winter equipment away so they can bring out the Spring equipment. They can’t wait for the nice weather to stay! June 10th is our annual Ice Cream Social for the South Campus High School students, which is supported by our school Board and the student’s parents. The Neo-Chefs help organize this event.
