School to Career
Partnerships between Bankbridge Regional School, local businesses, local industry, and the community provide a wide variety of work related experiences. The School-To-Careers Transition (STC) program is designed to bridge the gap between school and work by offering students an opportunity to develop practical workplace skills along with academic and technical skills. A unique aspect of the STC program is the commitment to actively enlist partnerships among schools, employers, labor, government organizations, and community groups. At a secondary level, students initiate and make decisions regarding their career major. Students may explore their field of learning by participating in Work-Based Learning opportunities. Local businesses provide opportunities for students to gain knowledge and skills in various career pathways. Through those experiences students learn the importance of interpersonal and business skills in conjunction with their comprehensive educational program. The School-To-Careers Opportunities Act was established in 1994 to prepare young people for careers in skilled paying positions. The STC Transition program has been customized around three key components which form the basis of this collaborative approach. The School-to-Careers program helps prepare students for entry into the New Jersey Labor Workforce. Academic and occupational education in the classroom, shops, and workplace provide opportunities for hands-on learning of workplace skills. Students participate in School-based Learning, Work-based Learning, and Connecting Activities. School Based Learning Provides students with opportunities to gain work-site experience with a wide range of nonprofit and private sector organizations.
